The Lower School at Stuart

Kindergarten through Grade 5

Community is an essential element in the life of a Lower School girl; the children and their teachers form one large community in which concern for each girl is the pivotal point. During the Lower School years, each child begins to find herself, her own bent, her interests and her talents in the context of an all-girls program. She begins to realize the best way to find herself is to "give herself away" in response to the needs and concerns of others.
In an open, trusting environment, each girl is encouraged to question, contribute and launch out. Our teachers guide each young girl, at her own speed, toward new experiences and insights. Reading, mathematical projects and games, religion classes, art, music, drama and physical education are coordinated to promote an understanding of people and an enjoyment of learning.
