Letter from Head of the Annual Fund

Each year nearly $500,000 of our operating budget comes from our Annual Fund and approximately $365,000 is generated as a result of our current endowment. These funds touch every child, every day.  They allow us to recruit superior faculty and staff, provide excellent programming, supplement our curriculum with experiential learning opportunities, and ensure that we provide the type of education for which Stuart is noted.

Annual Giving is important because, like most independent schools, the cost of tuition at Stuart does not fully cover the cost of educating our daughters. Last year the gap between these two figures was approximately $3,140 per child. To close this gap, we need the help of the entire Stuart community. We are asking that 100% of our current parents, faculty and staff, administration, past parents, trustees, grandparents, and alumnae make a gift to the Annual Fund at whatever level possible--every gift is important and every gift is appreciated. Your tax-deductible donation, no matter the size, sends a clear message to other funding sources, such as foundations and corporations, that you believe in and support Stuart--an important factor when applying for grant funding.

This year marks an important milestone in Stuart’s history, as we will be bidding farewell to a truly transformational leader, Headmistress Frances de la Chapelle, RSCJ. Sr. de la has been a gift to all in the Stuart community. As she departs, she has not asked for material gifts for herself; she has selflessly requested that we work together to build Stuart’s endowment. To that end, we are asking that once you have made your gift to the Annual Fund, you reach into your hearts and make a very special gift to the Imagine Tomorrow’s Stuart Endowment Campaign in her honor. This endowment campaign concentrates on the areas that Sr. de la believes will strengthen Stuart for not only our daughters, but our daughters’ daughters (1) attracting and retaining the most gifted students; (2) recruiting the most qualified and dedicated faculty; and (3) providing the most relevant, challenging, and comprehensive curricula. Help us give to one who has given so much to others.

Some of you have just begun your partnership with Stuart while others cannot remember a time when the Stuart family was not an integral part of your own. Just the simple act of choosing Stuart for your daughter is a testament to your great belief in the value-based, individualized educational experience that Stuart offers each of its students. So we are asking you to continue to believe; continue to support; continue to give.

We cannot make our participation goal of 100% without you.
