Ring Ceremony Held November 30th

THE JUNIOR RING CEREMONY
A STUART COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL TRADITION

On November 30th, the junior class at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart received their school rings in a traditional ceremony welcoming them into the national and international community of Sacred Heart students.

With friends and family looking on, each junior received her ring from a member of the senior class and/or an alumnae relative.  This year many alumnae were in attendance to help commemorate the day for their daughters, sisters, and friends.  Stuart alumnae returning to give rings were Meaghan Byrne '06, Margaret Camp '07, Rachel Claudio '03, and Mary Lombardo '05.

The junior class received congratulations and flowers from Stuart Alumnae Board members Kristin Rodewald Dawson '80 and Meg Dougherty Coghlan '73 following the Ring Ceremony.

Stuart’s school ring is unique.  It is a crest ring featuring an engraving of a deer, an important symbol for the school since its inception in 1963.  The ring differs from those of other Sacred Heart schools and symbolizes not only the distinctiveness of Stuart, but also the uniqueness of the individual wearing it.

The Junior Ring ceremony is a most memorable event for Upper School students. This is the time where the junior students are presented with their school rings in a candlelight ceremony. The ceremony symbolizes the passage of the juniors into the community of Stuart women.

The turning of the rings is a Sacred Heart tradition. Following the ring ceremony, there is a rush to have the rings turned many, many times.

The girls are instructed to wear their rings with the deer facing inward during their time at Stuart. The Stuart school ring features a deer slaking its thirst.
