Visiting Author Program

The Lies, Light and McCarthy Visiting Authors Program is an annual event that was the dream of three former Stuart English faculty members; Betty Lies, Nancy Light and Vicki Flournoy McCarthy ’71.

The goal of the program is to bring prominent authors to Stuart who will share their knowledge and experiences with the students. During the daylong event, authors meet with students formally and informally. Students prepare for the event by studying the author's work and are able to share their own written work with the Visiting Author. Student Q & A discussion sessions are also held in group settings based on student grade.

Funds raised through the Poetry in Motion 5K Walk and Run, held each spring to honor the memory of Mrs. McCarthy, who died in 2007, support the program.
