Community Service at Stuart

Community service at Stuart models the Sacred Heart commitment to a “social awareness that impels to action.” The program helps students learn about the needs of the community and how to respond effectively with their unique gifts. The concept of service is engrained into the culture of the school, and at all ages, students serve others inside and outside the school community.

Upper School students fulfill 50 hours of community service per year— with many exceeding the requirement. Middle School students focus their service efforts on caring for the elderly and young children, and can often be found reading to the Pre-School students. Lower School students participate monthly in a special community-service project to benefit a local agency. They also work with students in the Stuart Pre-School, assisting them with classroom activities.

Appalachia Service Project

Upper School students and faculty spend a week during the summer repairing homes in the Appalachia region.

Sacred Heart Network Service Projects

Through the Sacred Heart Network, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of service projects in settings throughout the U.S. Possibilities include, but are not limited to, working with inner-city hungry and homeless, aiding disabled adults and assisting with homebuilding projects.

Local Service Projects

There are many volunteer opportunities close to home. Students participate in initiatives benefiting several local community-service organizations and nonprofit agencies.
