KITCHEN SCOOP:
The new year has begun. May the new year bring health and happiness to all. Here at Stuart
our core values continue to being committed to serving the community exceptional nutritional food. The Dining service team works hard everyday to serve the freshest high quality meals. We encourage everyone in the Stuart community to stride to be the best they can be. I believe this all starts with nutrition.
I love interacting with the children everyday. During the K-2 lunch, I am always encouraging
the students to eat through the rainbow. I let the children know how imortant it is to have
many colors on their lunch tray.
Below are some of the many exciting things we have brewing in our dining room:
* With our commitment to local products Stuart is now working hand in hand with Common Market. The Common Market is a values-driven wholesale consolidator and distributor of local food. They create a link between Stuart and local farmers. This in turn supports local agriculture and makes local food more accessible to Stuart.
* Sandy Harkness is now working with Cathy Quinlan offering a middle school
cooking club. The emphasis on this club is to teach the girls to prepare everyday healthy meals.
* The middle school cooking club will assist Sandy Harkness and the kitchen crew in the preparation of food for our outreach at the Loaves and Fishes kitchen. The goal is to encourage the girls to put their joy of cooking to use as a means of loving our neighbors, a practice we hope that they will continue to practice in the months and years ahead----and carry through their adult lives.
* Our salad bar includes but not limited to: fresh mixed greens, both plan and flavored low fat yogurts, whole fruit, whole grain granola, cottage cheese, freshly prepared raw and blanched vegetables, fresh cut fruit salad, legumes, specialty salad of the day.
* The deli bar includes slice deli meats, all the fixings, multigrain and wheat bread, bagels, assorted tortilla wraps, white breads infused with whole grains and much much more.
* Our apple and orange juice is 100% juice.
* We offeer flavor enhanced waters, which contain vitamins B5, C, B12, B6, and Niacin, with zero calories.
* NO fried foods are served, as we don't even have a fryer in the kitchen.
* Skim, 2%, and fat free chocolate milk are served daily, from our local Lehigh Dairy.
* Stuart used cage free eggs from Sandy Ridge Farm in Elizabethtown, PA.
* We love to cook the vegetables form the Kindgergarten Garden.
* We also have a kitchen herb garden, in which we utilize the herbs by drying them and using them daily.
* We offer two soups a day, one being vegetarian.
* Stuart is paying attention to our carbon footprint by eliminating many noncompostable materials.
* Stuart has made the decision to remove paper coffee cups for the dining room encouraging the Stuart community to drink from reusable mugs.
* Stuart is now tray less for the middle school and upper school lunches.
* Stuart food service management are serv safe certified, which means that we have passed a very detailed and challenging course designed to reemphasize food safety and preservation. Many of our staff has attended teh serving safe food training offered by the Princeton Regional Health Department.
